Chalachal was released on 1956 Bengali film starring Asit Baran, Arundhati Debi, Pahari Sanyal, Jahar Roy, Anil Chatterjee. Music Nirmal Bhattacharya scored the music in this Bengali Movie. The story is as Sarama Banerjee a lower middle class Bengali girl who lived with her elder brother and his wife. Economically they were not in good shape, but culturally they were rich. Avinash a classmate of Sarama liked her a lot. He was not a good student and physically very weak. He suffered very frequently. Suddenly Sarama got private tuition from his teacher Chandra Saheb, a very dear teacher and he loved Sarama just like his child. Avinash left his studies and worked as a freelance commercial artist. A regular interaction between Avinash and Sarama created a bonding between them. In the meantime, Bipin came into the life of Sarama. He was elder brother of Mantu, the new student of Sarama. As a result, Avinash sacrificed his love, and Sarama got married to Bipin. Avinash used to keep in touch with Sarama and later Bipin started to doubt about them. Bipin was so confused and depressed that he decided to do suicide. After the death of Bipin, Sarama became so alone that she put herself busy in medical practice.
